Hi Shelby, I recently have taken a physical and bloodwork test. Everything is fine except for one part of the bloodwork that deals with kidney function (creatinine I believe, but not 100% sure) was mildly elevated. I am supposed to go back in one month and have it re-tested. I have been on creatine the past 11 weeks and will be on the one month break when I go in for the next test. First off, are creatinine levels in the kidneys and creatine related? I usually drink plenty of water (about a gallon a day), but not always although I should at least be close to 128oz. Will the levels drop down when I am off creatine and take the test, and then go back up once I resume? I have only been taking creatine on and off for the past two years about. I am 6'0 290 and generally take 5-8 grams per day. My diet is fairly clean meaning I stay away from fast and processed food and just eat a lot of meat and carbs. If you need more info let me know, but thanks for the help.
Well first verify exactly what it is, and what your values were.
Creatine supplementation can increase creatinine levels, as can having a more muscle mass than the average person (if you are reading this site, this probably applies to you!).
Was your blood taken after fasting? Eating a meat meal beforehand can also skew creatinine.
High creatinine levels can be an indicator of kidney problems though, so you may want to investigate further (cycle off the creatine for a while, and then re-test).
I'm not a doctor though...
