Hi Chris, I am entering my first full, raw meet at the end of this month. I have a question about my openers, my current PBs (weight in lbs)are Squat - 170(374), Bench - 140(308), Deadlift - 210(462). I am just about to complete my 4th cycle of 5/3/1 and so am fairly sure I will smash these (lifted 5x137.5(302.5) on bench today) so do I:

- Start with 160(352), 130(286), 200(440) to get some numbers on the board easily and not tire myself out
- Start with 170(374), 140(308), 210(462) as I am confident I can beat these and so this gives me the chance to get higher numbers on the board without taking too great a jump in the numbers, as in my first PL event (a push/pull in July) I opened with 135 in bench and then jumped to 145 and missed both 2nd and 3rd lift.

I would appreciate your thoughts, thanks.

I usually say...start with a weight you can triple, on second attempt go for your current pr and then on thirds go for it.;;;

Good luck,
Chris Clark
