Hey guys,
I want to start off by saying that if it weren’t for EliteFTS I probably wouldn’t be training at all. Things got pretty boring for me a few years back and I was thinking about leaving the gym altogether. After finding EliteFTS.com I now have more information and ideas than I know what to do with. Thanks!
But, I need a little help. I’ve been training for strength for 3 years now, and doing strongman comps for about as long. Most of my events are progressing well (aside from my pressing, but that is another story), except for my stones. I generally can load just about any stone I can lap, so long as the platform is no too high… I’m only 5’5”! My problem is, when trying to lap the heavy stones, I can’t keep myself from collapsing into a squat and having to roll the stone up over my knees. And since I am very short, I often can’t get the larger diameter stone between my legs once in a squat. Maybe this has to do with the fact that the starting position of my DL looks more like a powerclean than a SLDL?
So my question is, what do you think my weak point is, and how might I train it without access to stones? I have a few ideas here (hams?), but I am not 100% sure I know how to properly simulate the movement without access to stones themselves.
Thanks for all the motivation and inspiration to keep getting strong(er)!

Adam, I think tht your height is the biggest challenge. Getting a large diameter stone to your lap is hard enough if you are 6'2", never mind 5'5". Try bringing your stance out as wide as possible when lifting the stones. Get strong in this position in the gym. You will probably find that Snatch Grip Deadlifts will help. MAke sure that you start with your shoulders farly far in front of the bar when you do these.
