|3/25/2012 10:01:23 AM - will
I'm a 38 year old newbie, getting ready for my first meet. My question is what I should be doing on my last week. Is it truly a week off? I cant get straight answer from my more experienced training partners. I'll be crawling the walls if I dont go to the gym but I want to put up prs also. Any help will be appreciated. Love the site, and thanks for being here.
I wouldn't take the week off, but the work you do won't even break a sweat. If you're the guy who can't relax and enjoy the time off from the gym the week before and after the meet, then don't go in. Go for a walk everyday, stretch, do some mobility work. Nothing crazy, just keep the body moving. IF, and I emphasize, IF, you go in, the workout should take about 15 minutes. Like I said, don't even break a sweat.
You just spent 8, 10, maybe 12 weeks prepping for the meet. There is absolutely nothing you can do in the gym the week before that will help you. If you're worried about something you may have neglected the week before the meet, deal with it. There's nothing that a week of training will do for you.
Rest and enjoy the fact that you don't have to train.
