i've never competed in powerlifting before but i've been training around the wrestling season for about two years now and itching to do a meet. i'm 17 and 130-135 lbs. what would be considered good lifts for someone in my age/weight class? currently im at a 235 squat, 315 DL, and 185 bench.
Any goals i should have before i compete?
At your age, training age, and being an athlete, your "numbers" don't really matter at this point. If you are itching to do a meet, DO ONE!! Don't let numbers hold you back from having a good time, seeing what you're capable of, and possibly finding a new interest for when your wrestling career is over.
Your goals before you compete, are to register for the meet and learn the rules prior to going to the meet...that's it.
Go out, do the damn thing, have some fun, meet some other people in the sport, and get some numbers up on a platform. You'll have a blast!
I have a wrestling background, and I can tell you the mat experience you have will pay off on the platform as it requires a lot of the same intangibles.
When you eye a meet, let me know and I'll try to help you prep as well as I can. I'd love to see how you do and hopefully find a new interest for when you aren't wrestling.
