I have a big 2 day strongman contest coming up (nationals). What recommendations do you have regarding recovering as much as possible from day 1 so I can be more effective day 2? (E.g., I've been thinking about trying contrast showers and ibuprofen to help bring down inflammation.). Any comments on these or other strategies?
Recovery is tough on a 2 day comp.
Proper nutrition is critical, make sure you eat enough. This should be easy as you have already weighed in and don't need to worry about making weight.
Sleep is also critical.
If possible, take a 30 minute nap after the first day and get to bed early.
Contrast showers, foam rolling and lots of hydration will help too.
I'm a huge fan of ice after competing.
I have not used NSAIDS personally, I am against them for the most part unless you have an injury and they are truly needed.
Many people like them though.
