Hey guys. Powerlifting weight loss question. I'm 6'2" and dieting from 275 to a bit under 242. I did this last year also. Last year I went from 260 to 220 in about 3 months with a shit diet and lots of cardio. My total went from like 1050 to about 950. I wanted to avoid that this time so I eliminated cardio and in 3 months I'm down to 247 by just altering diet. About 3000 calories on work days 2500 on off days with between 170 and 200g of protein. When i topped out at 275 my total shot up to about 1220. Now that I have lost 27lb of weight my totall is back down to 1110! And I still have like 15 more lbs to lose. Is this normal or am I dropping to much strength? Thanks for an awesome site!


Whenever you see a weight loss as drastic as your in such a short time it is totally normal to see limit strength decrease.

The best way to get the weight off without losing strength is to manage your training and nutrition long term.

Try and lose body fat while adding lean body mass.

It is tough to drop a weight class and not lose any strength but going methodically and in a good amount of time is superior to dropping 40 pounds in a few weeks.
