Hi Murph, I just read your post about adding up costs for running a gym, great stuff and timing. I know one cost is going to be insurance. I have looked into Personal Trainer insurance but I imagine I will need more coverage on top of or in place of trainer insurance. What type of policy am I looking for?
Love the TPS Newsletter
You'll need general gym liability insurance with PT coverage.
Make sure it covers you/your staff on site and off site, like at the park or a stadium if you ever take people outdoors.
All of your staff will also need their own PT liability.
Yours will cover them in the event of a suit against the company (if they are employees) as long as they are not named individually.
If they are named individually and they don't have any insurance they are in for a financial disaster.
My best suggestion is to find a good insurance agent that writes for several other facilities already.
Call some places and ask who they use locally.
All local laws are a little different and an agent will know what the deal is.
It's a little more expensive to have an agent, but it is worth it when setting up a policy so you don't overbuy one place and lack in another.
Don't forget sexual harassment insurance too.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
