I was wanting to get into multi-ply powerlifting, after 5 years of already lifting raw. What recommendations would you have for gear I should use, being as I'm a beginner when it comes to geared lifting.

Also I've seen people using briefs under there squat suit, is this a common thing or was this guy just crazy.

Robert,

Wearing briefs under a suit is extremely common in multi-ply. In fact, I can't think of anyone offhand who doesn't. A really common approach to take is to use briefs and a suit that each have different characteristics , in order to augment each other. For example, A lifter might wear a suit with a lot of stopping power, like the Metal Ace Pro Squatter, with a brief that has more rebound, like the Metal Jack Pro Briefs.

I do NOT however recommend this approach to beginners, as it is a LOT of support to get used to.

What I would do in your shoes is to get a good, but not gangster suit and shirt, like the Metal Pro Squatter and Metal Bash Pro Bencher

As for the suit/brief thing, start out wearing it as a brief, with the straps down, then transition to straps up as you get better in it and start training for a meet. Save the briefs until you've done a meet or two in just the suit.
