I have an 18 inch deadlift in my next contest. Would you suggest training it on event day or on lower body day? I am following your 531 for strongman template. Thanks for your time.

Hey Sam -

It could be done either way, but I'd suggest training it on lower body day.

I'm not sure how many weeks out you are, but I'd do something like the following based on that template:

A. Deadlift (from floor) - 5/3/1
B. 18 inch. Deads - Work up to a training 5RM, 3RM and 1RM
C. Front Squats
D. GHR
E. Rollouts

*Training 5RM, 3RM and 1RM aren't true maxes. You'll be leaving a little "in the tank" on these.

5RM= Something you could hit for 7-8
3RM= Something you could hit for 5-6
1RM= 90-92% of your estimated 1RM

Hope that helps! Good luck!

Thanks,
Chase Karnes
