Are you still following the carb back loading /Intermittent fasting plan for your nutrition? If so do you continue that when you are preparing for the stage also?
That's a great question, one I get asked often.
This past year, I'll utilize carb back loading loosely. It tends to be a fairly maintenance-free guideline for me to follow, still stay relatively lean and enjoy some good food (aka junk) every once in awhile.
I do not utilize this for show prepping. The last 2 seasons I have worked with John Meadows and I couldn't be happier. He's an amazing coach, very smart and I trust him with my health and nutrition and physique. John had me following a custom plan, more of a bodybuilding style, with carbs pre and post workout and other carbs throughout the day.
Over the past 6 months as I dieted on my own, I continued to have pre and post workout carbs, no matter what time of day (I train in the morning, actually). I felt that was important for me to build muscle in the off (bodybuilding) season.
I'm currently working with Amit Sapir and it's also very similar to a bodybuilding diet, but we are working on actually increasing my food and carb intake right now since I'm so far out from a show (and getting ready for a meet).
Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!!
