"I have a question about testosterone. I'm 19 so I realize I shouldnt be worrying about this, but since I changed my diet about a year ago ive noticed changes. I don't wake up with erections like I used to and I feel depressed all the time. Not sad but like not enthusiastic and I don't feel any sexual urges. My calories look like ~2500 with around 200g protein 200-270g carb and around 70-80g fat. I used to eat higher carb so idk if that's the problem. I eat a lot more vegetables and meat and whole foods then I used to. I train 5-6 days a week and get at least 7-8 hours of sleep. Recently I started taking zma and noticed a slight improvement in my sleep but I could use a second opinion."

"The first thing I would recommend is a deload week with just some light cardio and stretching during that week. After that reduce your training to not more than 4 days a week. If you’ve been training 5-6 days a week for a year I would say you’re over-trained right now. Overtraining can be very detrimental and your test levels and energy can take a serious hit. Your food choices are good but depending on your bodyweight you may need to up the calories. For me I need about 20 calories per pound of bodyweight every day. Also if your body fat levels are low this can reduce your test production (just something to consider). Getting your energy and test back up from overtraining can take some time. After 5 weeks if you are not seeing improvements, and ready to smash the girls at Tilted Kilt, go to your doctor and have your hormones checked.

AND I know you said your 19 and based on what you have stated I believe you have your priorities straight but if you are drinking alcohol STOP.

I am writing this in the hopes that you could pass the information on to "Woody", who recently asked you a question about whether his diet could be leading to a drop in sex drive and depression.

Reading his experience was like deja-vu, I went through the same thing in my late 20s, and the reason was an extreme drop in my testosterone. The cause was dysfunction of my petutiary gland, which I have now been able to address with supplementation.

The reason I'm reaching out is that it took me well over a year of having a shitty mood before my wife, a doctor, convinced me to get my testosterone checked. If I could go back, I would certainly have gone to the doctor sooner and not lost a year of my life to a bad mood and lack of sex drive.

I would highly recommend getting testosterone levels checked. Usually, they'll also test LH and FSH to make sure your pituitary gland is producing the right hormones (which was my problem).

While I certainly would hope its just a diet issue, I would recommend not sitting on the problem too long if he feels shitty.
