Lifting for Lymphoma
I want to try and start a little buzz about this project Alwyn Cosgrove has been putting together. Alwyn has pulled in 57 trainers and coaches from the industry to write a section for this manual (almost anyone you can name has submitted) due for release March 1st.
All of the proceeds will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society.
What inspired Alwyn to do this?
I asked him this same question and this is what he said.
Because we can CURE cancer -- we just need $$$. Plain and simple. I'm alive today because we know enough (because of money) to administer treatments that saved me.
We could know enough to eradicate the disease if funding was sufficient. It's that simple - we don't have the funding to do research that could save lives.
How many lives could be saved if 15,000 people bought a $30 book ?
The endurance community helps ALL THE TIME - outside of some local power lifting, weight lifting or strongman events this is the first time the strength training community has stepped up in a long time. EVERYONE knows someone who did a marathon or a triathlon to raise money for charity. When did WE become so shallow? Why don't we LEAD the charge?
The US has spent more in the last six months in Iraq than it has in the last THIRTY FIVE YEARS on cancer research. And more people have died from cancer than have died in Iraq. When did we lose our priorities?
Donations
If there is any company out there that would care to donate or subsidize the costs of printing this manual then Alwyn would love to hear from them. If you are interested in this please contact Alwyn through the ask a question section of this Q and A.
We at EliteFTS support this efforts 100% by our contributions to the manual as well as selling the manual here at EliteFTS when it is completed. ALL proceeds from the sale will go to this effort (not just the profit and none of this administration fee crap. - we will give it all back plus some).
If you are a company looking for a good cause to help, here it is. Contact Alwyn on how your donation can help support this project.
To you - the average Joe
If you are just and average Joe looking to help then keep your eyes open and buy the manual when it comes out. Better yet, buy 5 and give for to your friends.
For now spread the word and put a coffee cup on your dresser. Each night when you go to bed toss your change in it and save it for this manual. By the time this rolls out you will have more than all the money you will need to support this GREAT effort.
Money can't be an excuse. It really is as easy as saving your change. With ALL proceeds going to this cause the only reason for you not to help is the same one that has held you back for so long now.
You just don't care enough to step up.
For those who feel this way remember this as you read any post from Alwyn on this or any site. If it was not for donations and projects like this he would not be with us now. How many have you lost to this disease? How many do you know have beat it? Was it one of your grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother, a best friend, a cousin, a son, a daughter, a friend, we ALL have someone and it is time we get together and do something to help. I for one would like to see this BLOW UP and be one of the best projects ever done. I would love to see this bring in millions and show the world that the strength community cares about more than ourselves and that YES we do have a voice and can make a difference.
It may seem small but you can make a difference, together we can ALL make a difference. Last month over 550,000 people read this Q and A. What is ALL of them picked up one manual?
Notice
I have not said one word about the content of the manual and it already has value for most of you all. So let me ask? Does the content really matter? With this in mind reread what was wrote at the beginning of this post. Everyone who is anyone wrote a section for this manual. Over 57 authors. What would you pay for 57 articles, but 57 of the best in the industry? I am not going to go on with this because it is not even an issue. The material is worth 100 times the price but is not where the REAL value is.
Sneak Peak
I submitted a pretty large article for this manual. Alwyn actually emailed be back telling me it was the best article I ever wrote and wanted to make sure I wanted to use it for this project.
In short, this is WHY it was the best article I have ever wrote.
Here is a small section of the article as a preview. Actually think of this more as a bribe. I will give this section to you for FREE now in exchange for you supporting this cause, saving your pocket change and buying the manual when it comes out.

excerpt from manual...
January 1975
After watching Pittsburgh beat Minnesota 16 to 6 in Super Bowl IX, all the kids in the neighborhood made their way outside to play our own version of the Super Bowl. I still remember my heroes like it was yesterday—Harris, Bleier, Bradshaw, Swann, and Stallworth. These guys were like gods to us. They were what we all aspired to be. They were warriors on the gridiron, and on this day, we all felt connected to them. As we played in a mud-filled lot, the hits were harder, the passes longer, and the runs faster. This was a day that we were giving it our all and nothing was going to stop us. The day tuned to dusk, and we kept going. The air got colder and the ground harder, but for this group of back lot kids, this was the best day of our lives. I was having the time of my life. Being much younger and smaller then the rest, I stood my ground and gave it my all.
It was third and long and the play was drawn in the mud. This BOMB would be going to me. This was it! This was my chance to be just like Lynn Swann. The count was made, the ball snapped, and I took off as fast as I could. I remember running with everything I had and feeling like an NFL pro. Within 15 yards, I was wide open. Ten more yards and the ball was in the air heading my way. Finally, this would be my day. This would be the day that the other kids would stop seeing me as the “last pick.” This was my destiny.
As I turned for the ball, I heard a snap. I fell to the ground. My foot got caught in a storm drain, and I twisted my ankle. Seconds later, I was lying in mud with the rest of the kids standing around me. Loser! Girl! Pussy! These were the words I remember the most. There I was face in the mud, and they were still kicking dirt in my face.
Moments later, I pulled myself up and headed home. As soon as I walked into the house, disappointed look on my face and tears in my eyes, my mother suggested I take a bath. So I headed off to the bathroom to start the water. My dad, however, never moved out of his chair. He saw me limp in the house and asked me to come into the front room with him. As I trounced through the house trailing mud to get to him, the tears got worse. Yes, my ankle hurt, but the pain was not from this. By the time I got to him, all I wanted was his support and for him to tell me how bad the rest of the kids were.
“Is the game over,” he asked me. No, I replied, and told him that I got hurt and had to come home.
“Is the game OVER,” he said.
I was speechless and didn’t know what to think. He said to me, “Pain is part of the game. Live with it.” He then told me to get my coat back on and go back out and finish the game.
This scared the shit out of me. Not only could I not walk, but I didn’t want to go back to the abuse. My father insisted though, and I found myself caught between a rock and a hard place. The next thing I knew, I was back outside finishing the game.
You may be asking yourself what this story has to do with overcoming weak points. Then again you might think you’ve already figured it out. Maybe this motivated you. Maybe this reminded you of your past. Maybe it confirms your beliefs that you have to play with pain. Maybe you’re all wrong.
What this shows is that MY DAD is the reason for all the injuries I’ve suffered throughout the years. HE is why I push harder when I’m hurt, and HE is the reason why I pushed so hard. HE is the reason why I never rested long enough. If it wasn’t for HIM, things would have been so different.
Do you buy this load of crap? Then why do all of you do the same thing every day?
The first rule of addressing weak points is to understand that they’re YOUR problem caused by things that YOU did or didn’t do. Got it?
Let me ask that again. You got it?
