Raw Unity Meet (brief recap)

This is the extremely short version; this was truly an awesome meet. Eric did a fantastic job bringing together some really incredible lifters from across many federations and with very different backgrounds. It was truly the "Bloodsport" of powerlifting.

Met many great lifters and awesome people and I owe a ton of thanks to Matt Gary and Sioux-Z Hartwig for their coaching help. The few times we get to meet up in person are always great, and I look forward to many more chances in the future. And Sioux-Z...you're a monster on the platform.

It was truly amazing to see such a diverse group of lifters competing at the same venue, getting along with each other, and pushing each other to the limit.

I achieved my goal for this meet and no more or no less. I'm way too tall for 165lb, but it was interesting to get down there and see what it was like.

My 12-month competitive goal was to make it on the PowerliftingWatch.com top 50 list for the raw deadlift in 3 weight classes.

501lb at 165lb (#41)
545lb at 181lb (#45)
573lb at 198lb (#41)

Also, to do a bodybuilding show, which I did 3 weeks ago...didn't expect to win it, but that was certainly a nice surprise

Anyway, it's time to stick to one of those weight classes and start climbing the ladder. It's going to be mostly 181 for now.

I'll write a more in depth summary soon, but right now I'm still in disbelief at how bloated I am and how much crap I've eaten over the last 2 days. I can't wait to get back on the diet tomorrow and start with some cardio again. I'll probably take the week off from any heavy lower body training and plan on getting to it full force next Monday.

Also, just wanted to give a quick thanks for those that I met who keep up with my log every now and then. Means a lot to know that I'm not always (just sometimes) rambling off to cyberspace. Kinda like blowing your load out the window of a spaceship hoping it'll get something in the galaxy pregnant. Strange analogy. I'll blame it on the sodium/water balance I've got going on right now.

And special thanks of course to Dave Tate and the rest of EFS for allowing me to represent such a great sponsor.

praying for diarrhea,
Matt McGorry
