My Weekend with CROSSFIT and Upcoming Training

So after attending a Crossfit Powerlifting seminar I have decided to switch my training focus from breaking the raw w/ wraps World Record and will now be focusing on lowering my fran time in an effort to qualify for the 2012 Crossfit Games. I'm kinda pissed that they only make Vibrams up to size 12 since I'm a 15 but at least I've started planning what tribal tattoo to get. What tribe should I be part of?

Well fortunately I'm joking, I won't be doing any kipping pullups while wearing long socks anytime soon, but I did help out Mark Bell and Jesse Burdick with a seminar they were doing here in Orange County and had a good time. I have been very outspoken about the downfall of Crossfit for ATHLETES in the past, and my views there are unchanged. Athlete's need a focused plan towards specific goals. For the general population though, I feel Crossfit presents many benefits, but I'm still not comfortable with the strategies that are often used from a orthopedic standpoint, but it is far less dangerous for a person to do 30 reps of snatches for time than it is for them to sit on their ass all day and live a sedentary lifestyle.

The participants at this seminar were a very captive audience, eager to learn and improve. They were very focused and worked hard to do everything they were cued on. There were some pretty strong people there too, one guy had pulled 633 at 198 and one of the girls was a top 20 competitor in the Crossfit Games. She was an absolute STUD, played college volleyball and threw shot/discus, box squatted 300 easily, pulled over 300 against bands and BONUS she is hot. Needless to say, she got the most coaching from the Juggernoggin haha.

I wasn't there for the 2nd day of the seminar when they talked benching and programming. Programming for Crossfit Games presents a very unique challenge because there are so many skills they must be prepared for and they don't know exactly what they will be doing. With that being said, I do think there are effective strategies to be used but I'm not going into that here.

My next meet is rapidly approaching and for those of you who read my log, it probably seems as I haven't been doing much lately. Have no fear, I'm still strong and still have big plans for this meet and will be doing more exciting training very soon.

I've got a good feeling about my new sumo stance for the deadlift, I can always squat big and plan on being in the mid 900s in Vegas. My pec is feeling much better and this semi-secretive board and reverse band work I've been doing seems to be helping me get healthy and still provide a good training effect.

I don't like to throw around numbers I think I'll hit, oh wait, yea I do...My plans are to squat 935 to go to #5 all-time in the world and pass the great Don Reinhoudt. I'd like to do that on my 2nd attempt and then pass the 3rd (like I had planned at the Pro/Am but this time I'm gonna stick to the plan). Bench should be in the mid 500s, maybe 520 as a 2nd for a PR and then 535+ as a 3rd. Deadlift is a bit harder to tell because I have done anything very heavy yet, but I'm sure I'll be over 800 and would hope to be in the 825-840 range. 2300+ is the total I'm looking for, I knew I was strong enough for it last meet, I just didn't stay focused, this time I will leave no doubt.
