Friday Bench - Saving victory from the jaws of defeat, kind of

Warmups went well and I hit my planned opener of 540 easily. My numbers called for 2 singles anywhere between 560 and 580. On the first 560 my right calf cramped and my foot slid a bit, so I had to grind the weight a little more than I wanted to. So, the guys decided on 570. Well because the 560 did not go as well as I wanted, I changed my approach. I put on my headphones and got all pumped up while waiting to lift. When I got to lift I was so out of my zone. I ended up bringing the weight more into my traps/shoulders instead of my lats. No lift.
I could not walk away with my last heavy session as a miss. I told them to put 560 on the bar. On paper it said I needed to get 2 singles between 560 and 580, so 2 singles with 560 would do. I did not wait to long and was very casual prior to getting on the bench. Took the weight and handled it very well. I walked away feeling much better. At least much better than had I walked away after the 570 miss.
Basically the heavy training is done. I don't know what to expect. This has been a very new approach to training for me. I'm really looking forward to competing and putting my best effort forth.
