This is a story I call: “How NOT to get a Special Deal at Iron Sport”

A guy comes strolling into the gym for the first time and just tries to walk right past my counter girl. I FREAKING hate when people walk into the gym and try to do that shit. So already he is all over our radar. She stops the guy and asks if he’s a member and he says, “No, I’m just going in there to talk to my buddy”. She tells him it’s ok but if he wanted to workout he would have to pay a guest fee. He comes back to the counter fifteen minutes later and tells her he is going to workout now. She asks if he wants to join up or pay a guest fee. He seemed baffled and says, “Don’t you just let people bring in guests in for free like all the other gyms?”

First mistake: You don’t make the rules in my gym, I do. We don’t give a crap what these other “gyms” do.

He was getting arrogant and started trying to argue his way into free goods and services. Mistake number TWO! The more you demand free stuff from me, the less chance you will be getting it.

Then he insisted on speaking with the owner and she told him I was gone for the night. I guess the guy figured he was going to wow us all by declaring that he was a student athlete and wanted to talk to me about working out a special deal with me. Ohhh, a student athlete? Why didn’t you say sooooo? I wish I was there because my response to this guy would have been the old Jimmy Conway line in ‘Goodfellas’, “Fuck you, pay me!” I have pro football players that come in here to train and I make those guys pay too so don’t feel too bad.

He then asks her to leave a note for me to call him so I can work out a special deal with him. A special deal? I hope he’s not sitting by the phone waiting for my counter offer because I threw his number in the trash. I’ve been doing this way too long to waste my time for people that just want something for nothing. I’d much rather devote my time and energy helping my loyal paying customers.
