Gold's Gym, Bellmore, NY

To the “powerlifter” at Gold’s Gym in Bellmore, NY.

There were people in the gym today that you’ve heard of, and you caught some of their attention with your very impressive 95 pounds + single mini-bands bench performance.

A few things for you to think about:

1. Learn how to bench before you start showing other people how. You’ve got some serious technique issues, not the least of which is your completely dead lower body. You’re wearing a WSB shirt and doing doubles with mini-bands, but you’re benching like a bodybuilder.

2. Learn how to set up the bands correctly.

3. If you’re going to call attention to yourself in a commercial gym with all your (brand new) powerlifting shit and your big powerlifting bag and your (brand new) WSB sweatshirt, you need to train and act like people are watching you. There were two powerlifters who’ve totaled elite in your gym today (including one who’s done it in two weight classes), but neither was inclined to start a conversation with you.

Why? Because you left a pair of 100 pound dumbbells sitting in the middle of the floor of a commercial gym instead of putting them away.

Sometimes you’re not the biggest fish in the pond, even when you think you are. Trust me on that one.
