Tuesday- a new beginning
I was putting some though into making a change to my training for a few months and I have decided on what I want to do. I'm going to go with a 100% olympic lifting type of format with a focus on technique, athletism and speed instead of lifting heavy. In other word, train the lifts themselves, the pulls, the various squats and other olympic lifting assistance work, focus on sub-maximal weights, higher volume and constantly improving technique. Since a big part of the way I make my money now is training and doing clinics coaching olympic lifts it helps me as a coach to really focus on making my own lifting more precise. So I will be cutting out all powerlifts and bodybuilding stuff for a few months.
One other thing I would like to do is see if I can program the lifts so that my physique actually improves during this phase. Needless to say it will take some tweaking and adjusting here and there. I'm starting out with a five day format but that may change as I see how my body responds. I plan on working some slightly heavier lifting in using three week intervals but i'm going to really refrain from taking things to a max effort because this whole training phase is supposed to be helping my body not tear it to shreds.
This is what I did today:
Power snatch from the high block position (just above the knees)
Romanian deadlifts (RDL's)
Light back back squats
Nothing was done heavy, I did a large amount of volume with short rest on each.
