Close grip bench with a rep pr With Video

Thursday was a bench session at EVF Performance.

Due to my work schedule, I can't make the Thursday sessions at Eastside anymore, so I'll be doing them here for the time being.

The goal was 280 for 3 sets of 5 with a close grip, which I figured would be easy work based on the last few weeks. And, well... I was right. My close grip raw bench seems to be on the upswing and I was able to ride it through this mini-cycle.

Warmed up with the bar, then went:

95 x 5
135 x 5
185 x 5
225 x 5
256 x 5
280 x 2 x 5
280 x 7

For the last set, I figured I would tack a couple of reps on if I felt good. In retrospect, I was probably good for one more, but this was already a nice pr.

Disclaimer: The gym only has bumper plates so that's what I have to use, despite my history of mocking others for using them when it's not really necessary. I actually hate the fact that they make the weight look heavier, because I have to constantly remind people that I'm weaker then I look.





After the benching, I did 4 sets of 15 fat guy pullups on the rings.

That was it.

I've been doing less assistance work then usual for the past few months because I've been a little pressed for time, and I'm far wawy from a meet. Funny thing is, my raw bench keeps improving. Plus my shoulders feel better. Might keep it to a minimum on purpose if this keeps up.
