Event Day - Circus DB & Yoke

I am currently training for The 2014 Arnold Amateur Strongman Fitness World Championships. This will be held at The Arnold Sports Festival Feb. 28th through March 2nd in Columbus, Ohio. I’ll be competing in the Lightweight 185# division.

My diet seems to be going great so far. I’m currently weighing around 203 and looking to hit 200 by Thanksgiving. The goal is to get to 195 then maintain and train at the bodyweight leading up to The Arnold. Then I’ll have an easy 10 pound water cut to make the 185# class.

Things have been a little more hectic for me than usual as it’s prime deer hunting time here in Kentucky. And for those that don’t know hunting is another passion of mine besides training. I’ve spent 30+ hours in tree this past week enjoying Mother Nature and quite time to relax and think. Getting up at 3:30am to hunt can be pretty draining after a while. But my Arnold prep on the training side of things hasn’t begun just yet. So I’ve just been having some fun with my training and not doing anything too structured just yet.

I hit a quick event day yesterday between my morning and afternoon hunts. I really wasn’t feeling great due to being short on sleep, but I put in some good work regardless.

A. Circus DB Clean & Press (clean each rep)

Worked up to 155 x 6

B. Yoke Walk x 80 ft.
660# (add belt) – 14.25 seconds – PR

*I’ve got more on the circus DB, but I’ve got to figure something out with it. Since we had it modified by cutting the ends down to make it shorter and more like the ones we use I competition it’s beating the hell out of my traps and collar bone. With the technique I use the sharp end is resting on my trap and collar bone. After multiple reps yesterday I was bleeding and my collar bone has a huge knot. I’ve got some ideas to fix this issue though.
