PR City 350# Push Jerk, 285# Strict Press, 475# Front Squat all at 198 w/VIDEO

I am currently training for the task of becoming a new dad while balancing training, work, buying a new house, moving and life... While preparing for my next competition, St. Louis' Strongest Man. This will be held on May 10th. I’ll be competing in the Lightweight 231# division. I also will also be defending my title as St. Louis' Strongest Man 2013.

What a day. I woke up exhausted. I mean two cups of coffee in and I couldn't hold my eyes open. I had two clients gone today so I worked my first appointments and then had a break from 8am-10am. I decided to train during this time so around 7:30 I killed 300mg of caffeine.

I decided to test my overhead, strict press and front squat.

We also closed on our next house today. We've been in between homes since Decebmer 31st when we sold our last one. It's been a little crazy to say the least. We've had a place to live - but a hour longer roundtrip commute each day. But we take possession in two weeks. So hopefully our baby can stay in my wife's stomach at least that much longer...

But on to the training.


A. Axle Push Jerk
Worked up to 350 x 1 PR

B. Axle Strict Press
Worked up to 285 x 1 PR

C. Front Squat
Worked up to 475 x 1 PR

For those who wonder why I'm testing all my lifts this week - this is why:

In strongman we very rarely have a max event. We do on occasion, but most competitions are a weight for reps, medley, etc. Since my training always has a purpose I don't like to waste a day testing my 1RM when I could be building strength or building muscle. But typically the week after a strongman contest I'll either take off or I'll test a few lifts. While these are less than ideal conditions (fatigued from competing) I've typically peaked my strength for specific events. So what better time to have some fun in the gym and test whatever I feel like testing.
