This Morning & Something Cool That I Hope You Can Help With

A major goal I continue to chase is to be the first woman in the world to certify on the Captains of Crush 2.5 gripper. Aside from this goal, choosing to sit out The Arnold this year was a good decision for family and business. However, the athlete in me has reawakened with a desire to work hard and train hard. My training is beginning to circle back to strongman and grip but competitions are yet to be determined. The requirements of business, career, family and intense competition prep do not always mix. Part of the competition decision making process will be evaluating what area can be cut back on for a bit as competitions are announced. Until then, my goal is to improve conditioning and begin the process of getting stronger.

I was super late getting to bed last night. All I kept thinking about was how excited I was for this morning's training. My thinking was if my gripper work continued as well as it has been going, I was going to move forward with certification on the 2.5.

Training this morning told me otherwise. It was very disappointing. Everything felt awful. I looked back on my training and a few things came to light. Gripper work has been cut back to two days per week along with the rest of my training due to time constraints. This was a game changer for my gripper work because I had far more time to recover. I do still support gripper training three days per week for the most part. Lately my second gripper training day is on the weekend which allows a few more days of recovery.

The other part is it's time to take a little break. I've been hitting grippers hard and experience tells me when I bottom out, it's time to back off, rest and the second grip day back I kill it. So, moral of that whole story is I need to wait just a little longer. The positive side is I will come in even stronger next time back and this will make the certification that much more of a done deal.

GHP 2 - 4x5
1.5 - 2x5
2 - 1x2
My 2.5 - 2x0, had to assist on the close. ugh.

DL - This was also a casualty of fatigue.

135, 1x5
240, 1x5
330, 1x5
350, 1x1 OMG.

This was the second clue that it is time to regroup.

Sandbag Runs - 100 lbs, 2x200 ft

In other news, I was nominated and was chosen as a finalist in the Celebrate Teachers! contest at Boise Towne Square Mall. I am really going to need YOUR help on this one because like you, I am ridiculously competitive in nearly every aspect of my life. And nobody likes to lose. The bummer in this whole deal is you can vote DAILY so that is sort of a game changer. And there are a LOT of nominees.

Voting starts at 8:00 am mountain time today but I will be...get this...TEACHING. So please check back in my log later today and I will explain it all, share the details once it's all posted and ready to go.

Have a GREAT Day,
Amy Wattles
