Strict Press rep PR w/Vid & Quad Update
I am currently training for The 2014 North American Strongman (NAS) National Championship. It will be held Oct. 4th & 5th in Reno, NV. I'm also adjusting to raising a new baby boy while still working, training and living life.
Training went good yesterday. Got in and got the work done needed and a nice strict press PR in the process. After training I went to get some manual therapy done on my quad by a chiropractor/friend of mine. After talking with him we think the pain was caused by some large knots/adhesions in the muscle that was pressing on a nerve when I was in the hole of the squat. I also had him work on an old injury on my right quad that was pretty knotted up. We think it could possibly be part of the reason my left quad starting giving me problems. Foam rolling is good, but you can't beat getting hands-on work from a professional. We also talked and I think I'm going to make my main squat from now until after Nationals the front squat. At Nationals there isn't a squat event so really I'm just using it as a strength builder. And the front squat has a lot of carry over to strongman. Since the mechanics are different he thinks it'll stress the area that's been giving me trouble less. So that's my plan for squats moving forward.
