Circus DB presses and never give up

The good thing about focusing on technique is you get to improve your form and lifts. The bad thing is, you find out sometimes you’ve been doing it wrong (or not the best way) the whole time! As I was practicing the circus dumbbell presses, which to me is one of the most frustrating lifts because the form is awkward, I began to get worse and worse and slower and slower at it. Starting to get frustrated and doing the whole “shaking my head and f—this”, my boyfriend goes to me, “don’t shake your head! Don’t ever shake your head.” And he was absolutely right! Then he broke it down like this:
A. Your position looks awkward
B. You aren’t using your leverages to your advantage
C. You weren’t utilizing your triceps to their fullest
D. You have shoulder mobility issues, which may be the most important reason why you are getting worse

Sometimes I feel like he knows me better than me, or maybe I let my frustrations get the best of me? Either way, I snapped out of it, rebooted, and focused on my strengths rather than my weaknesses.

135lbs (5 x 5)
Incline DB presses
40lbs x 10
45lbs x 10
50lbs x 10
circus dumbbell presses (using a DB)
Competition weight will be a 65lb press
45 lbs x 1
50 lbs x 1
55 lbs (is when my speed and form was getting worse) failed multiple times before getting one
60 lbs (I adjusted my form and it felt comfortable and faster)
65 lbs (Got this sucker for 2 x 2!)

What freaked me out the most before I got my mind right was “competition is a week and a half away!” You may fail and fail and fail but the most important thing is to keep that positive attitude. Know that you will do anything possible to get it and achieve it. The mind is a powerful thing and it can either make you or break you -- and it almost broke me. I have to thank my boyfriend for the motivation because he said we weren’t leaving until I got it right.

It's not always pretty...

She believed she could, so she did.,
