Post war (competition)

First and foremost, I want to thank Donnie Kiernan and the guys for putting on a great show! The Roman and Roman Strongman competition was not only for athletes to battle it out on the platform, but it was also in support of the Sand Soldiers of America (Veterans coming home). Honored to be part of a great cause. I was also so happy to see that a lot more girls were competing in this year’s competition versus the last! The sport is growing, which is an awesome thing.

Breakdown

Leading up to the competition, I did several things:

- Attempted to bulk up
- Distracted myself from overthinking by getting my hair and nails done. Yes, I am very girly.
- Packed the day of the trip because I like to live dangerously

All jokes aside, from experience, nerves do get the best of me so I try to distract myself as much as possible. I felt confident but anxious more than anything. The bulking part actually happened too – I was eating carbs every meal and successfully gained a few pounds in a week and weighed in at 138. The competition was separated into 2 weight classes, 180 and below for the Women’s LW Division and 181 and above for the Women’s HW Division.

Nothing out of the norm of my usual competition routine. I woke up, ate light, and hydrated as much as possible (half Gatorade/half water with BCAA’s) and that continued throughout the day. Rules began at 11:30am and first event started at 12pm sharp.

Press play and I hope you enjoy!

Placed 1st in the first and third event and tied for the fourth event. Side note – it was so freakin’ cool to be announced competitor that completed the most amount of squats in 60 seconds out of the Women and Men’s division. I believe someone donated a certain amount for each rep that was completed towards the Sand Soldiers of America cause (kudos to you!)
I have so many to thank (you know who you are) because without your help and support, I would not have been able to get this far. 2015 Nationals, here I come!
