Openers for Next Weekends Strongman Push/Pull Competition, Hamstring Update and More...

I am currently coming off of a year and a half of almost constant training for a competition. I just finished up competing for a while with a 2nd Place finish at NAS Nationals and a 3rd Place finish at SCL England. I'm taking the next 14 weeks off from strongman events and will be putting on some weight and size during that time. I'm also adjusting to raising a new baby boy while still working, training and living life.

As you know if you're been reading my log I haven't touched any strongman events since before England. And I haven't touched the axle clean & press since before Nationals. I haven't done the 18 inch deadlift in almost 3 years. However I decided last minute to compete next weekend in St. Louis' at the USS "Hope for the Holidays" competition. First and foremost this competition is a great cause as it's a fundraiser for a local orphanage. And part of your entry is to bring a kids toy. Some of the kids usually come watch and it's a great time for all involved and most of all a great cause. I also decided it would be nice to get qualifying for Nationals out of the way early so I can continue to train to put on some quality size and weight over the upcoming weeks as I slowly transitioning back into more event work before competing in June at USS Strongman Nationals.

I also had some manual therapy on my hamstring earlier this week and I'd say it's close to being 100% again. So I took today to kind of "test" how it felt on the events I'll be doing next weekend and also worked up to some conservative possible openers.

Everything felt very strong and fast today. I had no pain in my hamstring and I think I'll be able to put on some respectable numbers next weekend. Especially considering I haven't trained for this competition.
